Ed Parker's American Kenpo Karate
Ryer Martial Arts Academy is an
official American Kenpo Karate affiliate school under
Grandmaster Richard "Huk" Planas.
In addition,
Ryer Martial Arts Academy is an official Kenpo Counterpoint
affiliate school under Senior Professor Zach Whitson.
Ed Parker's American Kenpo Karate is a traditional, empty-hand
martial art focused on a comprehensive study of movement and
self defense applications.
Students of our American Kenpo Karate program are introduced to an
accumulation of empty-hand self defense techniques that are
designed to combat various self defense situations. At the
beginning stages considerable practice is given to these pre-set
techniques or sequences, but as time progresses the student is
guided to express themselves extemporaneously, that is, to alter
their sequence of movement at will.
In addition to the
self defense techniques, students of our
American Kenpo Karate program are taught the traditional forms and sets. The forms
and sets act as an index of movement and allows the student to practice without a partner or train at home.
Finally, students of our American Kenpo Karate program are
taught the innovative Kenpo Counterpoint drills that
explore the concepts of countering and re-countering in
techniques.
