Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based
martial art. It has become a
staple art in mixed martial arts and is largely credited
for bringing widespread attention to the importance of ground
fighting.
Students of Ryer Martial Arts Academy's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program are introduced to
a comprehensive system of standing and ground
defense techniques utilizing rules of leverage. The
wide variety of these techniques and their counters are to manipulate the
opponent into a dominant position on the ground. Students
spend considerable practice effectively
learning to use the guard position to defend oneself from
bottom and then pass the guard to dominate from a top position
like side control and mount.
Training
methods in our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program include technique drills, isolation sparring, and full sparring.
Students are able to train realistically in a safe and controlled
environment.
Sparring, commonly referred to as "rolling", plays a major role
in our training.
It emphasizes aerobic and anaerobic conditioning,
making it an enjoyable workout for both women and men regardless
of athletic ability. You will get lean; increase your endurance and flexibility; and learn one
of the most proven martial arts disciplines.
Here is what Master Pedro Sauer, an 8th Degree Red/ Black Belt
under Grandmaster Helio Gracie and Master Rickson Gracie, thinks of our
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Program.
